Moroccan, azulejo or Talavera?

All three traditions share a love of repeating tile, but each has its own character. Moroccan patterns are built on interlocking geometry, with stars, arches and lattices in terracotta, blue or soft neutrals. Portuguese azulejos are the classic blue and white tiles of Lisbon, often with floral centers. Mexican Talavera is the most exuberant of the three, with bold flowers in cobalt, yellow and orange. For warmth, start with terracotta or Talavera; for calm, blue and white azulejo is hard to beat.

Where tile wallpaper works best

Tile patterns feel most at home where you would expect real tile: a kitchen wall, a laundry room, a bathroom or a powder room. They also make a strong accent wall behind open shelving or a dining table. Because the pattern is printed, you get the look of an intricate tiled wall in an afternoon, and renters can take it down again at the end of the lease.

Peel and stick or traditional?

Every design is printed to order in 24-inch-wide panels, in heights from 76 to 124 inches, and ships in 2–5 business days. Peel and stick is removable and renter-friendly, while traditional wallpaper is the better choice for a long-term install. Our material comparison guide explains the difference, and our measuring guide helps you work out how many panels you need. Tile colors are easy to misjudge on screen, so we suggest a sample first: choose the 7×7" or 24×24" sample in the Size menu on any product page.

Frequently asked questions

Can I use tile wallpaper as a kitchen backsplash?

It works well on kitchen walls and behind open shelving. Right behind a stove or sink, protect it from direct splashes and heat, for example with a clear acrylic panel.

Will it look like real tile?

From a normal viewing distance, a well-scaled tile print reads convincingly as tile. Up close it is a smooth, flat surface.

Does peel and stick wallpaper damage walls?

Not on properly prepared walls. Read our honest answer.
